Land, Buildings & Real Estate (LBRE) is the operational core of Stanford University’s physical campus. Department Introduction:
We have divided 10 million square feet of academic buildings into 4 districts (A through D) to manage the delivery of building maintenance services. This enables the district staff to know their buildings well and focus on the occupants to better address their needs.
District A provides building systems support for the following schools: Dean of Research, Humanities and Sciences, ITS, School of Earth, Energy, and Environmental Sciences, School of Engineering, and off campus areas at Hopkins Marine Station and the Stanford Foothills. Furthermore, District A provides technical assistance and coordination support related to misc. building issues, building commissioning, building system's performance, construction plans review, updating Facility Design Guideline, and District Technical Training. Last, District A is responsible for building systems shutdown coordination and preventative maintenance testing coordination.
Job Purpose:
Work in research facilities performing troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of building systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, etc). The work involves a variety of trade skills and/or specialized skills appropriate to the equipment
Core Responsibilities & Duties*:
Independently be able to troubleshoot and repair building systems such as Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Systems, Plumbing Systems, Electrical (eg. 120V) systems, etc.
Oversee and/or monitor construction maintenance related project activities; ensure integration with overall department goals; coordinate with staff, subcontractors, and/or vendors.
Demonstrate a high degree of expertise on most or all of the systems their group is responsible for, and work independently, with little assistance from a lead person
Maintain, repair, and service complex systems and equipment
Work independently on the most difficult assignments in their work group; and give direction, instruction and support to others
May be called upon to plan, schedule, determine work priorities, and coordinate work with others
Research and locate required parts and equipment as necessary
May perform any of the duties described in the Maintenance Mechanic Specialist specification or other duties as assigned
Adhere to safety rules
Provide 24x7, on call remote and on-site support every other week to ensure teaching and research is minimally impacted. Must be able to be on site for emergencies within 2 hours.
Must be able to respond to emergency calls and be on-site within 2 hours of being notified.
Effectively communicate (verbal and written), present and share project status and overall building equipment condition assessments with students, faculty and leadership.
All work is required to be on-site.

Education & Experience:
This skill level is generally associated with a minimum of five years of experience in the trade or Journeyman level or a combination of education and relevant experience
Minimum Qualifications:
In addition to the qualifications listed at the Maintenance Mechanic level, the work of the Specialist requires a high degree of skill in the use of a wide variety of tools and equipment, including specialized tools and expert practical knowledge of all of the equipment and processes for which the group is responsible
Ability to work independently on most assignments

Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial Class C Driver’s License
Physical Requirements*:
Ability to drive day or night
Frequently sitting, perform desk-based computer tasks, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Occasionally stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 11-20 pounds.
Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.

Working Conditions:
May be required to work overtime, evenings and weekends, including Holidays, sometimes in inclement weather conditions. Required to wear appropriate uniform. May work in confined spaces.

May need to work from ladders, platforms etc.
