The Department of Medicine (DoM) is committed to setting the highest standards for patient care, ground-breaking biomedical research, professional education, teaching, and training. We are devoted to advancing the science of medicine by developing new methods to prevent, diagnose, and treat all aspects of human disease and strive to provide compassionate and pioneering health care to all of our patients.

The DoM is seeking a Web Manager (Digital Community & Social Media Specialist 3) to develop and implement initiative-level digital community strategy for an organization, partners with internal stakeholders. The department is comprised of over 2,500 faculty, staff, and trainees with conferences, events, internal and external speakers, and websites with a reach well beyond that of the local community. This individual will be responsible for ownership and management of our central department website (medicine.stanford.edu) and developing content and a voice that engages digital audiences and increases engagement with that site.

The Web Manager will report to the Director of Communications and continually audit the content on the main DoM website, identifying content that needs to be updated or produced and working with content contributors or program contacts to produce that content. They will submit content to the department IT team for layout and site updates or revisions/improvements. They will also continually consult on and support content production efforts for websites closely affiliated with the department (i.e. sites belonging to DoM divisions or other organizations or initiatives). Finally, the Web Manager will work with a third-party SEO firm to develop content on the main DoM site that will improve its rankings in Google Search.

The successful candidate will ideally have some prior experience developing (written and perhaps graphic) content for websites, so as to have had opportunities to demonstrate sound judgment and solid problem-solving skills, especially when working on/with public-facing content. They will have demonstrated an ability to work and think independently and move projects from conception to close in a timely fashion.

This position is open to a hybrid work schedule (working from a Stanford location at least two days a week) or a fully remote work schedule, based on mutual agreement.

Duties include:

  • Lead digital community-building through social media channels, blogs and the web.
  • Manage development and implementation of digital community strategy for a group, unit, project, program, initiative, channel, organization or unit; including how to engage customers and fundamentally impact their relationship with constituents.
  • Responsible for ownership and management of digital channels and/or the web. Oversee editorial strategy and voice (of the content through the channels).
  • Partner with internal stakeholders such as program teams, service teams, IT, campus partners to achieve program goals and to ensure coordination.
  • Manage constituent complaints and reputational issues and other high priorities on digital channels.
  • May hire, coach and manage teams.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience developing (written/graphic) content for websites.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum 3 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Knowledge of the web, technology, social platforms, current and future trends.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solver.
  • Ability to leverage current and future trends to help an organization succeed at the initiative level, for a specific group, team or unit.
  • Ability to work independently to meet expected deadlines and schedules.
  • Experience leading high functioning teams.

The expected pay range for this position is $100,143 to $121,531 per annum.
