The President and Provost Office (PPO) at Stanford University plays a key role across the university by supporting 16 independent organizations, each reporting directly to the President or Provost. 

Organizations within PPO include: Undergraduate Admission & Financial Aid, Institutional Research & Decision Support, Board of Trustees, University Budget Office, Faculty Staff Housing, Office of the Vice Provost for Institutional Equity, Access & Community, Office of Faculty Development, Diversity & Engagement, Faculty Affairs Office, Academic Secretary Office, Stanford University Press, Office for Religious and Spiritual Life, and units dedicated to education and community outreach through Stanford Continuing Studies, Online High School, Summer Session, Pre-Collegiate Studies, Digital Education, Distinguished Careers Institute, Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education, and Knight-Hennessy Scholars Programs

In this position, you will report directly to the Director of HR and will play a key role in aligning our HR and people operation strategies with each unit’s objectives while developing teams toward excellence in their respective fields and roles. This role will offer you the opportunity to operate across the entire HR spectrum: strategic, consultative, transformational, and operational aspects.

Our ideal candidate will have a depth of HR generalist experience with strong talents in employee relations, total rewards, and talent management. 

In this role, you will:

  • Coach leaders and managers to develop strong skills around building teams, managing performance, facilitating open communication and feedback, and managing in an equitable and inclusive manner.
  • Be the expert in handling employee relations issues and ensure compliance with California and federal employment laws and regulations, and adherence to Stanford policies.
  • Assist the Director of HR in the implementation of strategies for facilitating organizational and behavioral change. Participate in organizational design and related development of action plans. 
  • Implement, evaluate, and monitor training and development programs to ensure success. Follow up to ensure training objectives are met.
  • Advise managers on job classifications; review and approve salary actions; design and/or manage incentive and bonus programs, as needed.
  • Support the rollout of the performance management process, compensation planning, and other HR cross-functional initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the PPO HR team as a trusted team player and provide support on day-to-day activities as needed.
  • Oversee and/or approve human resources transactions submitted for processing. Ensure accurate and timely recordkeeping practices.
  • Assist with the creation, documentation, and implementation of human resources policies, programs, and processes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience. Eight to ten years of relevant experience preferred.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR or equivalent certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience as a consultant and advisor to management in at least four human resources areas, including: employee relations, employment and labor law, compensation, staffing and employment, training and development, performance coaching and management, and organizational development.
  • Solid background in HR practices and strong knowledge of relevant employment laws and regulations.
  • Proven ability to effectively handle complex employee relations matters. Trained on internal investigations.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and understanding of group dynamics. Successful track record of establishing credibility and trust with a diverse client group.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, judgment, negotiating, influencing, and decision-making skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Strong collaborative skills to work with cross-functional teams and HR colleagues.
  • Excellent facilitation and oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare clear and concise reports and deliver formal presentations or training to senior management and other audiences.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite and human resource information systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and accomplish multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining a high degree of organizational responsiveness.
  • Experience with organization design, change management.

The expected pay range for this position is $146,723 to $170,975 per annum.
Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
