The mission of the Office of Facilities Planning and Management (OFPM) in the School of Medicine is to plan for and manage the facilities needs of the School of Medicine community in the areas of facilities operations, capital planning and budgeting, projects from programming through occupancy, space inventory, and facility assets. In the pursuit of this mission the office now has an immediate opening for a Senior Financial Analyst.  This position will serve as a critical member of the Business Operations team that will oversee annual budgets, long-range forecasts, and the School of Medicine’s capital plan.  This is a hybrid work position that will require onsite presence of 1-4 days a month (~90% working remotely). 

 

Duties include:

  • Perform highly analytical, complex finance and control functions; multi-dimensional and complex reconciliations and related analysis; prepare or review and approve complex transactions and higher-level dollar value transactions.
  • Oversee and manage the complex, multi-year and multi-dimensional budget, tracking, and accounting for facilities projects. Prepare complex reconciliations and related analyses to track the spend to enable accurate and complete reporting.  Collaborate with Stanford Land, Buildings and Real Estate and Capital Accounting on the accurate accounting and reporting of capital expenditures.
  • Own the financial analyses and modeling for the School of Medicine (SoM) lease portfolio.  Perform financial analyses for SoM real estate scenarios (e.g., lease options, lease vs. buy, etc.).  Manage the forecast and modeling of long-term lease commitments.  Establish service guidelines for new leased properties.
  • Design and create recurring and ad hoc presentations, slides, reports, and schedules related to the annual budget, quarterly year-end projection, long-range forecast, capital plan, real estate scenario modeling.
  • Research, and synthesize data; interpolate results from large amounts of data, identify trends in data, draw conclusions, develop solutions, present and implement recommendations, and create follow up analysis.
  • Develop complex budget and forecasting scenarios, long-range planning and analyses for financial reporting and presentations; design and run ad hoc reports.
  • Lead and support unit and organization strategy and change management initiatives.
  • May supervise, train, coach, and review the work of other staff, as needed. Contribute primarily through applying individual expertise.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in corporate finance, financial planning & analysis, or other related fields.
  • Advanced Excel modeling skills for developing complex financial analyses and decision support models.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to accuracy and detail required.
  • High proficiency with creating data visualizations, managing, and publishing presentations, reports and dashboards on financial analyses, metrics and other supporting information using PowerPoint, Tableau, etc.
  • Strong familiarity with business intelligence tools for reporting and analysis.
  • Experience with current Stanford financial systems (i.e., Oracle, OBI, etc.).

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

  • Bachelor’s degree and six years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

                            

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning and financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of GAAP.
  • Advanced professional communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly sitting.
  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, lift/carry objects weighing 11-20 pounds.
  • Rarely reach/work above shoulder.
