It is expected that the Senior Associate Director will mostly focus on a newly merged institute, bringing together the Institute for Human-Centered AI and the Stanford Data Science Initiative. This institute is a core part of the university’s strategy in AI and data-driven discovery as a top academic and fundraising priority and this role represents the opportunity to be a key player in its success.

The Senior Associate Director is responsible for developing and executing on strategies for prospects with the capacity to give between $1 million and $25 million. Their work focuses primarily on gifts that secure top priorities identified by academic leaders, rather than pure opportunistic needs. The Senior Associate Director will be a key partner and liaison to the University Principal Gifts team, including working closely with the Assistant Vice President for Development in advancing prospect strategies for the merged AI and data science institute. • Develop and design systems to track solicitation assignments and progress.
  • Develop relationships leading to gifts in the $1,000,000 - $25,000,000 range.
  • Enhance relationships between current and prospective major donors and the school or unit's faculty, students, dean, staff and volunteers.
  • Lead a wide range of fundraising activities, including providing stewardship, identifying new prospective donors and volunteers, maintaining an active level of contacts, coordinating volunteer fundraising efforts in the school/unit, and facilitating relationships between potential and current donors and volunteers.
  • Lead staff to advance university relationships and solicitations, work with key prospects and donors to identify development opportunities within the school/unit, and devise strategies for involving and soliciting external constituencies.
  • Establish ongoing relationships with individual alumni through personal visits, phone calls, and meaningful contacts.
  • Prioritize prospects, prepare background information, make volunteer assignments as appropriate, and follow up with volunteers to ensure completion of assigned solicitations.
  • Work closely with other colleagues in development to align program goals with the overall giving goals of the university's development organization.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience [MS1] or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated success in major rated prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation, with emphasis on prospects and gifts at the $3 million level or greater.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and working with volunteers, faculty, and staff, preferably in a complex academic setting.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to articulate a compelling case for philanthropic support programs.
