To be successful in this position, you will
bring:
- PhD in a quantitative or scientific field and three
years of relevant experience, or combination of relevant experiences.
- Candidates with fewer years of combined
education/experience may also be considered.
- Computing skills, including computational techniques for
statistical analysis, scripting, and batch processing. Must be Unix/Linux
fluent.
- Ability to understand research methodology, academic
literature, experimental procedures and their limitations, and current
needs of the social science research community.
- Demonstrated experience with relational databases, data
integration, and statistical programming.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
while managing time effectively in a fast-paced environment with
unpredictable workflows.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and oral English communication skills.
In addition, our preferred requirements
include:
- Experience scripting in and performing data management
and analysis in at least one of the following languages: Python, R, Matlab, or
NodeJS on Unix-based systems.
- Strong understanding of common computational
social sciences techniques, such as logistic regression, structural equations,
constrained optimization, factor analysis, network graphs, sentiment
classification, random forests, and so forth.
- Experience using regular expressions and natural
language programming concepts to extract information from text documents and
other poorly structured data sources.
- Experience using computer vision tools (OpenCV,
etc.) to extract data from images and videos.
- Experience with finance and accounting data, such
as CRSP, Compustat and SEC filings.
- Experience with social science data and research,
preferably in an academic environment
- Experience in crafting, handling, and dealing
with the nuances of large, messy datasets without established structures.
