The Childhood Research Obesity Prevention Lab under the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (Pediatric GI) within Stanford University is seeking a Project Manager (Project Management Specialist) to manage activities of assigned projects from project initiation through completion with limited guidance; coordinate all technical activities on assigned projects. Work is typically comprised of 30% time contribution towards project leadership and 70% as a technical contributor.

The selected candidate must have the ability to develop the research study workplan and timelines to achieve the deliverables and meet milestones. S/he will be expected to work on various small and large projects which will include training the research and community based organization staff on lifestyle and social needs intervention delivery in home and community settings. S/he will help facilitate the work in the lab and provide regular study updates to the study team on predefined metrics, ensuring all required sponsor reporting information is collected and contributing to the project reports. This would include overseeing the development and execution of study communications plan and study team meetings, agenda setting, presentation preparation, dissemination of action items and results, and return of results to study participants. Prior experience with research project management is desirable. 

The Pediatric GI Division has approximately 40 pediatric gastroenterologists with nationally recognized expertise through their research, teaching, and clinical programs which attracts leading candidates to their fellowship program.  We have a mission of healing children with digestive disease through innovation.  Our Pediatric GI Specialty provides comprehensive GI care to children throughout our region. We lead global destination programs that deliver highly specialized care and train the next generation of pediatric gastroenterologists, and inspire hope through innovation.  Our high quality, collaborative care is driven by cutting-edge research and active partnerships between doctors, nurses, and staff throughout the Stanford Medicine Children’s Health network, scientists at Stanford University, and patient families.  Together, we are changing the lives of children today and shaping care for tomorrow.

Duties include:

·         Review project plans and proposals, and work with management to develop project objectives; identify project responsibilities by determining the phases and elements of the project; calculate time frames and sequence the stages of the project.

·         Perform project management oversight of small projects or more than one large task within a larger project.

·         Oversee, coordinate, and perform technical aspects of project, with guidance, based on type of project manager support required (e.g., engineer, quality, scheduler).

·         Review, evaluate, approve, and monitor cost schedule and technical scope baselines.

·         Ensure the preparation of required project documentation.

·         Contribute to communication plan and change management elements.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Prior experience in research project management
  • Prior experience in supervising personnel
  • Prior experience with managing projects that involve academic, community, and other stakeholders
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications in a previous administrative setting
  • Fluent in English and Spanish

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

·         Polished written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.

·         Ability to productively contribute to cross-functional teams.

·         Depth of knowledge in technical discipline/domain needed to deliver projects.

·         Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement components.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

·         Frequently sit, perform desk based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

·         Occasionally stand/walk, write by hand, twist/bend/stoop/squat and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.

·         Rarely use a telephone, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, reach/work above shoulder, grasp forcefully.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

·         May be exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures, be exposed to high voltage electricity, radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise > 80dB TWA, allergens/biohazards/chemicals /asbestos, or heavy metals or work on roofs at heights greater than 10 ft.

·         Travel locally and cross-university.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the University reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is $92,000.00-$110,000.00 annual.
