Within SDSS, a new unit called External Education and Mobilization has been created. The mission for this organization is to harness the power of knowledge and education to inform and motivate change to achieve a more sustainable future. 

EE&M seeks an experienced and organized, full-time Program Manager responsible for facilitating the development and implementation of executive and professional programs within our portfolio.

This Program Manager, reporting to the Director of Professional Programs, will work alongside expert Stanford faculty and EE&M colleagues to deliver and enhance existing programs, create and implement new programs, and collaborate with teams across Stanford University and external partners. The Program Manager helps shape programmatic offerings, provides comprehensive project management and operational support, manages recruitment, and evaluates impact to enable continuous improvement. Examples of programs include on-campus programs for board members to become the sustainability champion on their company board, and for C-suite executives to learn about the intersection of sustainability and business through learning from experts and experiencing sustainability challenges and solutions firsthand via global excursions.

In achieving these goals, the Program Manager’s responsibilities will include managing and executing programs and tasks such as:

  • Manage a portfolio of sustainability program offerings for executives and professionals.
  • Responsible for providing project management and operational support to successfully execute programs, including managing timelines and coordinating logistics to support successful programs.
  • Develop and implement outreach and communication plans for target audiences in partnership with our marketing partners. 
  • Manage the admissions and tuition payment processes for each program, in collaboration with faculty directors and external partners.
  • Collaborate with our internal logistics partner to plan, oversee and execute the event logistics for each program.
  • In partnership with faculty and colleagues, contribute to the design and manage the implementation of new programs identified as gaps in the current portfolio.
  • Identify potential risks to program success and developing strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Support the scaling of programs within the portfolio that have been piloted and determined effective. 
  • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations. Assess efficacy and impact of programs and recommend opportunities for improvement.
  • Communicate professionally with faculty leaders and program participants in a manner consistent with the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability’s mission and communication style.
  • Represent the program and contract with and oversee vendors, when applicable.
  • Track program revenue and expenses. Participate in development of budgets, monitor, and approve expenditures. May perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine the budget.

To be successful in this position, you will need:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant subject matter knowledge, such as, implementing academic programs with executives or professionals and/or event planning. 
  • Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.

  • Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, and critical analysis skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to a variety of key stakeholders, through multiple channels.
  • Keen attention to details; commitment to the accuracy and integrity of all data, reports and communications.
  • Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tact.
  • Adept at engaging executives and industry professionals.
  • Proficient in use of Google Drive products and Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Computer knowledge and proficiency (Mac/PC).
  • Familiarity with Stanford University policies, procedures, and systems.

The expected pay range for this position is $99,015 to $126,383 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
