Precourt Institute for Energy

As part of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, the Precourt Institute for Energy concentrates the talents of the University on energy research and education, from basic science and technology to policy and business. We disseminate research results and help the University develop energy-literate leaders as part of its educational mission. We work across campus in all seven of Stanford’s schools. We also build collaborations globally with industry, other research institutions, government, and civic organizations in pursuit of sustainable, affordable, secure energy for all people.

Explore Energy Program

Explore Energy is a student engagement and energy education program under the Precourt Institute for Energy. It serves as a one-stop resource and nexus of connection for all students who are interested in energy—aggregating classes, majors, events, research, student clubs, internships, and jobs across campus. Courses, fellowships, mentorship, and a residential living program are also offered under the Explore Energy umbrella at Precourt for both undergraduates and graduates of any major, providing opportunities for students to learn about energy and sustainability both in an academic and an applied setting. Seeking Program Manager, Explore Energy
The Precourt Institute for Energy is seeking exceptional candidates to serve as the Program Manager for its Explore Energy Program, working closely with and reporting directly to the Assistant Director for Explore Energy.

The Explore Energy Program Manager will assist the Explore Energy Assistant Director and Managing Directors in developing and leading a comprehensive student engagement program for experiential learning, energy literacy, connection, and mentorship that will serve students across Stanford’s seven schools. We are looking for a Program Manager who is creative, passionate about working closely with students, and is excited to help continue to build a world-class student-facing integrative energy program.

This is a hybrid position based on Stanford’s main campus that will follow Precourt Institute for Energy guidelines for days worked in the office and days worked remotely. Regular meetings, check-ins, and interactions will be a mix of in-person and on Zoom. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position.

Your Responsibilities will include:

Student engagement is a big part of this role. The candidate should have an enthusiasm to work with students and be excited about developing strong, lasting connections with them. Knowledge of Stanford University as a student is preferred but not required.
Creativity, passion, and excitement to create a positive, meaningful program for Stanford students to help them navigate their connections with energy on campus is a must - we are here to broaden their experience, to increase their ability to have a positive impact in the world, to support their goals and help steward them towards being good global citizens.
Develop streamlined workflows to manage tasks and resources for a growing program.
Lead and execute experiential learning programs, such as our week-long conference for incoming graduate students: Energy@Stanford & SLAC.
Build awareness and visibility of Explore Energy across campus, including marketing and promoting our programs (and other student efforts at Precourt) and doing outreach to student-facing groups across campus.
Build and nurture relationships across Stanford’s energy ecosystem (and with external partners). Community building is an important part of this role.
Serve as a mentor to students, connect them to resources and opportunities, and help them chart a path forward based on their interests.
Guide and support Explore Energy Peer Advisors and other student hires, including helping run team meetings and delegating tasks to others.
Develop and grow new efforts, such as an alumni mentoring program for students.
Oversee web-based resources, including managing the Explore Energy website developing content and reviewing/adding relevant courses, internships, and other resources across campus.
Maintain relationship with the Advisory Board by scheduling meetings (2~3 times a year), developing and delivering presentations, synthesizing recommendations for the team and developing action plans.
Support the programs and activities at the Explore Energy House.
Help curate and review student communications (including the newsletter), streamline the communications plan, and manage the Energy Tricycle.
Lead planning events such as, Community Socials and the annual Energy Expo e.g., to bring students together, to provide networking opportunities, etc.
Propose, track budget and process finances for events and student programming; support the Assistant Director in creating overall program budget proposals and reports.
Generally support the Assistant Director and the Explore Energy program in various ways (including taking notes, managing to-do lists, scheduling meetings, monitoring and evaluating programs, etc.)
Self-energy education - personally stay up-to-date with the latest in energy information by reading, watching/attending seminars, etc.
Collaborate and work together with other program managers at Precourt, particularly the Explore Energy team.

Work Environment
Precourt Institute for Energy is a teamwork-focused and collaborative work environment. The Explore Energy Program Manager will work closely with the Assistant Director for Explore Energy. The Program Manager will also connect with the broader Explore Energy / Understand Energy team at monthly in-person meetings and annual offsites. The program manager will also connect with other program managers, staff, and directors at various Precourt meetings, check-ins, and social events.

The expected pay range for this position is $99,015 - $126,383 per annum.
