The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a Life Science Technician 1 to participate in projects aiming to develop AAV (Adeno Associated Virus)-based tools for genetic manipulation in the neural retina. The lab focuses on understanding the development of the retina using mouse models.
The Department of Ophthalmology at Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Technician I to join the lab of Dr. Sui Wang, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, to perform basic functions and activities involved in defined research projects and conduct and analyze experiments under supervision. Duties and responsibilities include:
• Perform basic and skilled techniques in support of lab’s research goals.
• Tissue Culture and AAV production
• Molecular Cloning
• Immuno-histology
• Animal maintenance
• Animal dissection
• Microscopy
• Maintain accurate documentation of experimental protocols and perform mathematical analysis of data.
• Monitor, order, and store all lab supplies. Interface with vendors and materials procurement.
This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least one year of previous laboratory experience or two years of college coursework in related scientific discipline desired. Solid written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated professionalism in working with colleagues (both internal and external laboratory users).
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
One year’s employment experience in laboratory work or a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience/training (e.g., one year of college science).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
Work requires the ability to follow detailed instructions and keep accurate records.
