Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 (LSRP1) to join our team and work on defined research projects focused on the development, maintenance, and plasticity of macrophage functions during persistent bacterial infection in the new laboratory of Dr. Trung Pham (https://profiles.stanford.edu/trung-pham?tab=bio). Under the guidance of the lead investigator, the LSRP will isolate immune cells from Salmonella-infected murine tissues for flow cytometry and functional assays, perform immunofluorescent imaging of tissues, cell culture, and cellular, molecular, and biochemical analyses. The position also will involve assisting with general lab maintenance. This is an opportunity to make significant contributions to a new laboratory and research program at Stanford. To apply to this position, please include a cover letter along with your resume in the online application system.

Research focus: Uncovering mechanisms of tissue immunity and immunophysiology during persistent infection: the metazoan immune system regulates tissue homeostasis, defends organisms against pathogens, and limits infection-induced tissue damages. Many pathogens, such as intracellular bacteria Salmonella enterica, Bartonella henselae, and mycobacteria can establish persistent infection and survive in host tissues for long periods of time. Using multidisciplinary approaches, we are interested in defining mechanisms that control tissue immune responses to contain pathogens and maintain physiologic activities during persistent infection, as well as to harness these mechanisms to eradicate persistent infection and restore tissue homeostasis.
