To be successful in this role, you will:

 

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three years of sprinkler/irrigation and landscape experience or a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic horticultural knowledge and understanding of plants, planting and maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of centralized computerized irrigation control systems.
  • Ability to work with pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Proficiency in the operation of pipe tunneling/mole equipment and other tools required for this work.
  • Ability to install, maintain and repair sprinkler systems.
  • Must have practical knowledge of the growth requirements and characteristics of the plant materials with which they work.
  • Ability to install, design and maintain landscape and irrigation projects from plan development to completion with little or no guidance.
  • Ability to read project plans and estimate materials from plans as needed.
  • Working knowledge of water pressure, hydraulics, high and low flow systems and basic electricity.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair controller, valves, wiring and other computer components involved in irrigation systems and fountains.
  • Detailed knowledge of the design of irrigation systems in use at Stanford and the capabilities of the components used in these systems.
  • Ability to use various equipment to prepare and recover sites.
  • Demonstrated strong communications skills (both verbal and written). Ability to understand and follow job-related instructions either verbally or in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter

 

Certifications and Licenses

  • Valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver's license.
  • Horticultural industry related certification is preferred
  • Computerized central control system training certification preferred.
  • Confined space certification or obtain certification within 30 days of placement preferred.
