Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), the largest auxiliary organization at Stanford University, supports the academic mission of the university by providing high-quality services to students and other members of the university community. R&DE has an annual operating budget of $400M, operates 24/7/365, and oversees a $3B asset portfolio comprising over 7 million square feet—one-third of the campus footprint. This role is designated as essential and requires incumbents to report to work onsite. Telecommuting is not available for this role.
SUMMARY OF THIS POSITION:
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Commercial and Residential Appliances and performing work under direction, the Maintenance III Commercial Appliance Technician performs/assists with performing all aspects of building mechanical and electrical systems and commercial food service equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, preventive maintenance, and installations for all Residential and Dining Enterprises facilities.
General:
Under supervision, performs/assists with performing troubleshooting repair, preventive maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system and equipment. Additionally, performs emergency response work, repairs as assigned which may include work outside of primary trade.
Refrigeration:
Under direction, checks, maintains, repairs and installs all air conditioning-related equipment, evaporative cooling systems.Repairs or replaces evaporators, condensing units and compressors; trouble shoots equipment, makes repairs to equipment, recharges units with refrigerant, checks for leaks. Brazes, cuts, bends, solders, threads and assembles pipes and fittings.
HVAC Equipment:
Under direction, performs troubleshooting, repairs, preventive maintenance for ventilation systems and heating systems – forced air, hydronic, steam systems, and related controls. Includes boilers/related equipment, rooftop equipment and water and steam service to fans for evaporative cooling or steam or hydronic heating.
Electrical Repair and Maintenance:
Under direction, performs electrical work as required related to servicing HVAC equipment; typical line voltage of 120V and 208V AC, low voltage controls. Follows proper lock out/tag out procedures.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to follow oral and written directions

Knowledge and ability to properly use hand tools
Ability to perform precision work demonstrating precise fine motor skills
Ability to logically follow prescribed troubleshooting sequences
Ability to plan own work, tools, and equipment needed
Ability to master cutting, bending, soldering, threading, and assembling pipe and fittings
Complies with all safety protocols and procedures including using PPE appropriately
Follows appropriate protocol to keep all vehicles, tools, equipment and keys secure at all times
Demonstrates the ability to report to work on time, complete assigned tasks, meets deadlines, thinks and acts effectively and responds to changes in procedures, processes, responsibilities, and assignments in a positive manner
Communicates verbally and/or in writing efficiently
Acts as an effective team player; contributes to maintaining a positive and productive work environment
Provide follow-through action to achieve desired results in a timely manner
Maintain a positive service attitude and approach to students, faculty, staff and visitors to the University
Capable of learning and applying safe work practices and procedures including proper use and care of respirators, hazardous waste management and handling, lockout tag out procedures, Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Confined Space procedures, CPR, and chemical safe practices.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
Wears respirator and other protective safety equipment and clothing as needed
Must be able to lift heavy materials frequently each day
Works in all types of weather
Able to climb on roofs or crawl under buildings
Ability to respond to emergency calls at night or on weekends
Willing to work alternate shifts at nights or weekends when required
Qualifications:
High School Diploma Required
Demonstrated skills training and work history in performing electro/mechanical work
Valid California driver’s license
Minimum 2 years’ relevant work experience
The expected pay for this position is $47.47 (Step 1) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs
Internal candidate rates will be applied based on the CBA language for promotion and transfer.
