Stanford Bio-X supports, organizes, and facilitates interdisciplinary research connected to biology and medicine. Ideas and methods embodied in engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, and other fields are being brought to bear upon important challenges in bioscience. In turn, bioscience creates new opportunities in other fields. Significant discoveries and creative inventions are accelerated through formation of new collaborative teams. Students and Faculty are broadening and enriching their training in science and technology to integrate fields, departments, and schools more fully at Stanford. Educational events for Bio-X participants and for the public are planned to motivate thoughtful discussions of social and ethical issues connected with scientific advances.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Stanford Bio-X/Clark Center Financial Analyst (FA2) will be a member of the Bio-X staff team and supports the overall operation of the Clark Center and the Global Bio-X Program. This position helps the Program & Finance Manager to manage and track financial responsibilities to ensure timely and accurate reporting needed to various sources.  Includes regular reporting to the Program & Finance Manager and the Executive Director of Operations & Programs.  This position also ensures compliance with university and sponsoring agencies financial policies and procedures.

Intense experience with Oracle or other financial systems is required. Must have an in-depth understanding of accounting principles, and must have experience working with budgets. Must be able to communicate complex ideas and numbers clearly and succinctly and have an avid commitment to accurate work.  Must possess proven ability to analyze information, define issues, propose solutions, collaborate on improvement plans, and implement changes effectively.  Must have ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with a wide variety of individuals.  Must be team oriented. Must be able to make and implement good decisions based on accurate analysis of all available information. Must be able to work collaboratively and function effectively in a fast-paced environment.  Must have strong understanding of accounting systems and technological skills: previous experience with Tidemark Budget Planning and Oracle Financials are encouraged. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles strongly encouraged. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Microsoft Excel, required. Demonstrated project management skills as well as collaborative team-based work experience required.

 

This is a 100% FTE, benefits-eligible position. The standard schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm.  There may be occasional extended hours and weekends for event support. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and after a trial period will be considered for an option of a hybrid schedule (one day offsite), subject to operational need. CORE DUTIES:

  • Perform and design adhoc analyses of large complex data sets: reconcile complex accounts. Identify and resolve complex issues which may span multiple areas.
  • Construct and assemble data for budgeting and decision making; develop conclusions, and present high-level summary of recommendations. May develop annual budget for individual department/unit.
  • Conduct analysis and resolution and recognize exceptions. Participate in developing solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes; maintain broader organizational perspective in decision making.
  • Execute internal control programs established by management, research new regulations, and recommend and implement approved changes. May manage compliance program for area of responsibility and create complex compliance reports.
  • Develop reports and presentations of complex financial data and metrics for management and third parties.
  • Participate as a member of a project team; support new initiatives. Make decisions determining approach to managing and completing processes.
  • Contribute to unit and organization strategy; assist in the development of change management plans and materials as needed.
  • Develop and maintain desktop procedures and process documentation for area of responsibility.
  • Define requirements, develop and implement complex test cases, perform system testing and analyze results.
  • Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and processes and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Provide consulting advice to client group(s); serve as a resource on matters that require specific technical, financial, or subject matter expertise; support negotiations with external partners.
  • May supervise, train, coach, and review the work of other staff, as needed. Contribute primarily through applying individual expertise.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and four years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences and client groups.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly sitting.
  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, lift/carry objects weighing 11-20 pounds.
  • Rarely reach/work above shoulder.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

      Routine extended working hours during peak cycles; travel to school/unit sites across university.

The expected pay range for this position is $89,000 to $118,000 per annum/hour.
