SCHOOL/UNIT DESCRIPTION: The Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute is a dynamic and rapidly growing institute within the Office of the Vice Provost and Dean of Research (VPDoR) at Stanford University. The goal of the Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute is to understand how the brain gives rise to mental life and behavior, both in health and in disease. The research community of the Institute draws from and informs multiple disciplines, including neuroscience, medicine, engineering, psychology, education and law. New discoveries will transform our understanding of the human brain, provide novel treatments for brain disorders, and promote brain health throughout our lifespans. POSITION SUMMARY: The Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute is seeking a Financial Analyst to join a complex organization which is dedicated to addressing a wide range of human health challenges and understanding how the brain gives rise to mental life and behavior, both in health and in disease As a key member of the Finance Team, you will report directly to the Associate Director of Finance and Administration. This includes, but is not limited to managing the annual accounting cycle for 15M budget and develops, implements, and oversees complex financial processes that support the organization's operations. This is a busy position at times requiring a high level of professionalism, productivity, accuracy, organization, multi-tasking, independence, sound judgment, and decision-making. The position requires a motivated person with a positive attitude and a passion for customer service and supporting others to manage a wide variety of tasks in a fast-paced academic environment.
CORE DUTIES:
Perform and design ad hoc analyses of large complex data sets: reconcile complex accounts. Identify and resolve complex issues which may span multiple areas.
Construct and assemble data for budgeting and decision making; develop conclusions and present a high-level summary of recommendations.
May develop an annual budget for teams assigned.
Conduct analysis and resolution and recognize exceptions. Participate in developing solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes; maintain broader organizational perspective in decision making.
Execute internal control programs established by management, research new regulations, and recommend and implement approved changes.
May manage compliance programs for areas of responsibility and create complex compliance reports.
Develop reports and presentations of complex financial data and metrics for management and third parties.
Participate as a member of a project team; support new initiatives. Make decisions determining approach to managing and completing processes.
Develop and maintain desktop procedures and process documentation for areas of responsibility.
Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and processes and identify opportunities for process improvement.
Provide consulting advice to client group(s); serve as a resource on matters that require specific technical, financial, or subject matter expertise; support negotiations with external partners.
May supervise, train, coach, and review the work of other staff, as needed. Contribute primarily through applying individual expertise.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and four years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel. Proficiency in google sheets is ideal, but can be learned on the job
Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Strong communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences and client groups.
Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.
Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced work environment with flexibility.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
A basic to intermediate knowledge of Smartsheets.
Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant area.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.

Routine extended working hours during peak cycles; travel to school/unit sites across university.

Onsite/Hybrid:
The expected pay range for this position is $111,640 to $129,130 per annum.
