SCHOOL/UNIT DESCRIPTION: The Stanford Vice Provost and Dean of Research (VPDoR) office advances, nurtures and safeguards Stanford’s research ecosystem. It recommends and promulgates new research policies and oversees implementation. VPDoR also provides financial and operational oversight for independent academic units and research support offices.

POSITION SUMMARY: Academic Affairs Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the policies, procedures, and programs related to academic affairs within the Vice Provost and Dean of Research organization. This role involves collaborating with faculty and staff leaders of VPDoR labs/centers/institutes, and their academic affairs administrators to ensure compliance with institutional policies and to facilitate processes related to faculty recruitment, appointment, retention, promotion, while also addressing any issues or concerns that arise in relation to broader academic affairs, including visiting scholars, other visiting appointments, and other teaching appointments
The Vice Provost and Dean of Research (VPDoR) dean’s office is seeking an Academic Affairs Manager to join our team to explore a wide variety of challenges.
CORE DUTIES:
Consult and advise senior faculty and administrative leadership on program and policy development concerning academic affairs. Facilitate the processes within VPDoR of faculty recruitment, appointment and promotion, faculty salary and other compensation settings, visiting scholar appointments, etc . May provide input to university leadership on institutional, academic, and administrative policies and guidelines.
Conduct strategic analysis of data, policy, and other information relevant to critical functional area(s) of academic affairs for the organization. Identify and resolve issues of substantial significance that affect the academic affairs function beyond the immediate organization.
Ensure compliance with school and university policies, utilizing solid judgment and understanding of relationships in relevant fields.
Serve on VPDoR or Provost’s Office committees to provide input on faculty and academic affairs issues. Represent the organization to other university departments including, but not limited to, the Provost’s Office; Office of General Counsel; Office of Faculty Development, Diversity, and Engagement; Office of Technology Licensing; Dean of Research; Office of Development; and other academic units.
Contribute to the management and the direction of academic and administrative policy development for programs and operations. Interpret and explain policy and programmatic development and changes to department chairs and managers on programmatic and policy development.
Oversee the collection, management, analysis, and/or reporting of faculty and other academic appointment data.
May independently or in collaboration with the Provost’s Office, direct supervisors and managers in the interpretation and implementation of academic affairs policies, procedures, and programs.
May provide input to university leadership on institutional academic and administrative policies and guidelines for improvement.
May direct staff and provide leadership to achieve goals and vision of the organization and the day-to-day operations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and five years relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, judgment, negotiating, influencing, and decision-making skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
Excellent facilitation and oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare clear and concise reports and deliver formal presentations or training to senior management and other audiences.
Strong supervision/management and staff development experience.
Demonstrated proficiency with business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite and human resource information systems.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Demonstrated experience in managing complex administrative processes.
Excellent communication skills.
Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
High level of independent judgment and sensitivity.
Demonstrated ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.
Occasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat; reach/work above shoulders; grasp forcefully; use a telephone.

Onsite/Hybrid:
The expected pay range for this position is $116,697 to $147,834 per annum.
