Stanford's Graduate School of Business (GSB) has built a global reputation based on its immersive and innovative management programs. The GSB is looking for either a Director or Senior Director of Web Strategy and Social Media to join our team. Based on the applicant’s education and experience, Human Resources will review and verify qualifications to determine the appropriate level.

Reporting to the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, this person will develop guiding principles and approaches for how Stanford GSB shares information across our web and social channels with prospective and current students, alumni, and anyone interested in the people, programs, and impact of our world-class business school.

This position manages a small, high-performing team focused on driving engagement and building visibility for the school’s academic programs, faculty research, strategic initiatives, and thought leadership.

This is a hybrid position and requires a minimum of two days per week on the Stanford University campus in Palo Alto, CA.

 

Primary responsibilities*:

Strategy:

  • Responsible for overseeing and developing long-range strategies for the GSB’s website and social media channels to meet school objectives.
  • Lead market research and analysis efforts for web and social. Guide the organization in using the results to set strategic marketing direction for web and social media. Use data to measure performance, identify trends, and unlock new opportunities for engagement and growth.

Web:

  • Ensure website experience meets business and organizational goals. In partnership with Digital Solutions (IT), resolve timely problems and technical issues.
  • Strategically partner with key stakeholders across the school to leverage the GSB website as a strategic marketing tool by identifying and prioritizing needed features and functionality for the GSB website.
  • Lead site-wide audits and make recommendations for short and long-term improvements, including content architecture, new features, and additional functionality.
  • In partnership with Digital Solutions, define and manage the development roadmap.
  • Audit data analytics efforts and introduce best reporting practices.

Social:

  • Manage the team responsible for the development, dissemination and monitoring of the school’s social content.
  • Guide effective and engaging social campaigns.
  • Own and report on social marketing metrics, goals, and KPIs to measure and track results.

People management:

  • Supervise and mentor a small team with web and social media expertise.
  • Set and manage budget, goals, and objectives in alignment with the organization. Provide financial and operational oversight for key internal stakeholder and vendor relationships, optimize processes and workflows, and spearhead ways to enhance collaboration and efficiencies.
  • Participate in university-wide and organization-wide initiatives and cross-functional teams, serving as a resource and thought partner

 

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience. (Minimum ten years of relevant experience for the senior director position.)
  • Website development experience:
      • A proven track record in achieving the organization’s visions, values and programs through developing complex organization websites. Candidates will be asked to provide URLs.
      • Knowledge of technical website development, usability, and accessibility
      • Proficiency in analyzing digital metrics and using insights to drive engagement and traffic.
  • Social media management experience:
      • Responsibility for social media channels for a highly visible organization or company
      • Knowledge of social media trends and advertising
      • Extensive experience developing social media engagement strategies and campaigns.
  • People management and leadership:
      • Experienced people manager, able to motivate, grow and train staff.
      • Prior experience in planning and managing the budget for a functional area
      • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence decision-makers
      • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
      • Demonstrated experience presenting to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging integrated marketing strategies to achieve goals.
  • Strong marketing management skills and the ability to persuade and influence decision-makers across all levels of an organization.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and leadership skills.
  • Proven people manager, with the ability to motivate, grow and train staff across functions.
  • Prior experience in planning and managing department budget.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting to senior managers.
  • Ability to work occasional work on evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule with a minimum of three days per week on campus

The expected pay range for this position is $184,431 to $218,430 per year.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
