The Director of the Office of Global Scholarships at Stanford University provides strategic leadership and oversight for the university’s advising and nomination processes for prestigious international awards, including the Rhodes, Marshall, Gates Cambridge, Churchill, Fulbright, DAAD, Schwarzman, and other major global scholarships.
The Director advances Stanford’s mission of global engagement by inspiring and guiding exceptional students and alumni to pursue the world’s most distinguished international scholarships.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice Provost, this position manages the overall strategy, coordination, and visibility of Stanford’s global scholarship efforts and supervises the Associate Director, who advises students and alumni on a broad range of international awards.
Working closely with faculty, senior administrators, and alumni, the Director ensures that Stanford identifies, prepares, and supports outstanding candidates who exemplify the university’s values and commitment to global citizenship.
In this role, you will:
Strategic Leadership and Oversight
Provide vision and direction for Stanford’s global scholarships portfolio, aligning it with the university’s mission to prepare students for leadership and engaged citizenship in the world.
Supervise the Associate Director responsible for Fulbright, DAAD, Schwarzman, and other major awards, ensuring consistency and collaboration across programs.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive advising framework, communications plan, and outreach calendar that integrate both UK-based and other international scholarships.
Serve as a campus leader and advocate for global scholarship engagement, representing the office and VPUE in discussions with a broad range of campus partners.
Program Management and Advising
Oversee the full advising and nomination process for highly competitive awards such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Gates Cambridge, Churchill, Fulbright, DAAD, Schwarzman, and others.
Lead advising and institutional nomination processes for UK-based scholarships, including committee coordination, campus endorsement, and interview preparation.
Provide developmental feedback on personal statements, research proposals, and academic materials to help candidates present their strongest applications.
Ensure that all scholarship nomination procedures comply with university and external program requirements.
Campus and External Partnerships
Build strong relationships with faculty, academic departments, and student communities to identify promising candidates early in their Stanford careers.
Engage past award recipients and alumni as mentors and panelists in candidate preparation and outreach events.
Represent Stanford in national and international scholarship networks and professional associations.
Serve as the university’s primary liaison with scholarship foundations and external funding organizations.
Assessment and Continuous Improvement
Track and assess applicant data, institutional trends, and program outcomes to strengthen future advising strategies and promote inclusive access to opportunities.
Stay current on developments in global scholarship programs, selection criteria, and international higher education trends.
Lead initiatives to enhance awareness of scholarship opportunities among all students.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Advanced degree and five years of relevant experience in area of specialization or combination of relevant education, training, and/or experience.
Experience developing program partnerships.
Extensive experience in higher education advising, academic mentoring, or fellowship administration.
Deep understanding of competitive international scholarships and the higher education systems of the UK, Europe, and Asia.
Proven ability to supervise professional staff and coordinate complex multi-stage selection processes.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including the ability to mentor students on highly competitive applications.
Strong organizational, planning, and project management abilities.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
Familiarity with the Rhodes, Marshall, Gates Cambridge, Churchill, Fulbright, DAAD, Schwarzman, and other international awards.
Experience engaging faculty and alumni in mentorship and selection processes.
Demonstrated success working with high-achieving, diverse student populations.

The expected pay range for this position is $139,741 to $179,496 per annum.
Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
