About Stanford University’s Hoover Institution:  The Hoover Institution on War, Revolution, and Peace is a public policy research center devoted to the advanced study of economics, politics, history, and political economy—both domestic and foreign—as well as international affairs.

Founded in 1919 by Herbert Hoover before he became the thirty-first president of the United States, the Institution began as a repository of historical material gathered at the end of World War I.  The library and archives have grown to be among the largest private repositories of documents on twentieth-century political and economic history.  Over time the Institution expanded its mission from collecting archival material to conducting advanced research on contemporary history and economics and applying this scholarship to current public policy challenges.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Development Program Manager is a vital member of the development team, ensuring that strategic initiatives are advanced efficiently by coordinating key development activities, including tracking prospect lists and progress for institutional funding priorities, assembling briefing materials, partnering with Stanford’s Office of Development on shared processes, and researching new funding opportunities.

Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, the Development Program Manager works across the department and acts as a vital operational and strategic conduit—administering, supporting, and managing programs that advance Hoover’s development goals. Under general direction, the role oversees a range of concurrent projects and independently drives progress by proactively engaging colleagues across the institution to gather information, align stakeholders, and ensure deliverables are completed to a high standard. They will also support foundation research prospect identification and identifying opportunities within foundations with whom we have existing relationships.

Success in this role requires strong organizational leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to manage complex workflows while maintaining momentum on the most important fundraising initiatives. Through thoughtful coordination, strategic preparation of materials, and consistent follow-through, the Development Program Manager helps ensure that Development team leadership is equipped with the insights, tools, and resources needed to cultivate meaningful donor relationships and secure philanthropic support for Hoover’s mission

 

CORE DUTIES*: 

  • Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the program by identifying and executing tasks and objectives, making recommendations, and assigning resources to achieve the goals of the programs or research priorities.
  • Tracks all programmatic metrics and analyzes needs.
  • Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for programs.
  • Represent the program as the key contact and subject matter expert to internal and external stakeholders and constituencies.
  • Represents the program purpose and objectives and the development leadership to donors and other departments across Hoover to raise Institutional understanding of the work and communicate resources needed.
  • Develops communication materials for important internal and external constituencies, e.g., Director’s Office, donors and members of the Board of Overseers, fellows, Stanford’s Office of Development, etc.
  • Some scheduling involved for department leadership.
  • Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include developing communications and training, planning/promoting events and/or conferences in support of the development team priorities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and/or three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize own work and multi-task.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions and discretion when dealing with confidential information.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant subject matter knowledge.
  • Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, and use a telephone.
  • Occasionally write by hand, twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, sort/file paperwork.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, operate foot and/or hand controls.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The expected pay range for this position is $100,023 - $124,516 per annum.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
