Education & Experience:
- In addition to the qualifications required for the Automotive & Equipment Mechanic Specialist the Automotive & Equipment Mechanic Lead requires experience coordinating the work of others.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Skilled in the repair of gas, diesel and electrically powered vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of safety practices consists of industry standards and practices.
- Basic computer system knowledge for work order and time entry
- Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment, including power tools and testing equipment.
- Expertise in all phases of automobile and equipment mechanics
- Demonstrated ability to perform sustained, heavy, and precision work, including responsibility for critical measurements, e.g., shaft end-play, piston/cylinder clearance, main bearing tolerances, etc. with no supervision.
- Trained and licensed to repair and maintain air brake systems.
- Advanced level of diagnostic skills to identify problems.
- Skilled in tasks they direct and be able to solve task-related problems.
- Demonstrated ability to effect good working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions and communicate those instructions to others.
- Ability to coordinate multiple resources to accomplish work.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial Class C Driver’s License.
- Current ASE certification required or must be obtained within a specified period after starting the role.
Physical Requirements*:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver’s License.
- Ability to drive day or night.
- Frequently stand/walk, perform desk-based computer tasks, write by hand, use telephone.
- Occasionally sit, grasp forcefully, twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, grasp lightly, operate hand and foot controls, sort/file paperwork or parts, work/reach above shoulders lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 10 to 40 pounds.
- Rarely climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), lie on creeper, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh more than 40 pounds

Working Conditions:
- May be required to work overtime, evenings and weekends, including Holidays, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
- May work in confined spaces, at heights > ten feet.
- May be exposed to high voltage electricity, noise>80db TWA, brake dust, hazardous materials and/or temperature extremes. Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The expected pay range for this position is $49.03 (Step 1) to $59.38 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
