MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:

  • Two or more of Physical Education grounds experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Certificate or degree in turfgrass, soil science, or agronomy preferred
  • Experience working in professional sports or for a college/university preferred.
  • Must be able to operate various grounds maintenance equipment, such as tractors
  • Follow explicit oral and written instructions; communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form.
  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
  • Ability to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative.
  • Able to perform physical tasks such as lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Able to work overtime, early mornings, evenings and weekends, including holidays, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
  • Effectively work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests in a clear, professional, and courteous manner which fosters a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to consistently adhere to the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality.
  • Creative and innovative, the ability to see alternatives and solutions
  • Knowledge of turfgrass and various plants and shrubs
  • May be exposed to allergens such as dust and pollens and chemicals such as oil, lubricants, pesticides, fertilizers and paint.

 

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES

  • Valid California Non-Commercial Class C Driver’s License
  • Be able to obtain a California pesticide applicator license within one year of starting the position

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver's license.
  • Must be able to operate various grounds maintenance equipment, such as tractors
  • Frequently stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully and lift/carry/push/pull objects up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, light/fine grasping, kneel/crawl, climb and lift/carry/push/pull objects up to 40 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position is based on the Stanford main campus.
  • May be required to work overtime, early mornings, evenings and  weekends, including holidays, sometimes in inclement weather  conditions.  
  • Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment  (PPE), such as safety glasses, respirator, hearing protection,  gloves and hard hats.  
  • Required to wear appropriate uniform 
  • May be exposed to allergens such as dust and pollens and  chemicals such as oil, lubricants, pesticides, fertilizers and paint. 
  • May be exposed to noises greater than 80db. 
  • May be required to work at heights greater than 4-10 feet.
