The Athletics Groundskeeper 1 is assigned to the varsity competition fields. Under the direction of the Director, Sports Turf or Athletics Groundskeeper Lead. This position is responsible for assisting in daily operations to the turf department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintenance, repair, painting, fertilizing, spraying, and other various cultural practices.
Job Responsibilities
Ability to operate a variety of equipment pieces to include mowers, tractors, aerators, top dresser, etc
Prepare facilities for events, games, and practices
Perform a variety of general ground maintenance to include equipment repair, irrigation head replacement, and field setup and layout
Water, weed, seed and maintain sports fields
Perform duties such as moving sports or other equipment by hand and keeping playing areas
Ability to work independently in unsupervised conditions
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, willingness to accept all assignments
Experience in synthetic field maintenance
Minimum Education and Experience Required
Minimum 1 year experience in turf management, horticulture, or related field.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to work outside in all types of outside weather conditions
Ability to withstand extensive standing, walking, pushing and pulling
Ability to follow job related instructions
Ability to operate tractors with attachments and mobile and non-mobile mowing equipment
Certificates and Licenses Required
Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial Class C Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements
Ability to drive day or night.
Must be able to operate various grounds maintenance equipment
Frequently stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully and lift/carry/push/pull objects up to 10 pounds.
Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, light/fine grasping, kneel/crawl, climb and lift/carry/push/pull objects up to 40 pounds.
Working Conditions
May be required to work overtime, early mornings, evenings and weekends, including holidays, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, respirator, hearing protection, gloves and hard hats.
Required to wear appropriate uniform
May be exposed to allergens such as dust and pollens and chemicals such as oil, lubricants, pesticides, fertilizers and paint.
May be exposed to noises greater than 80db.
May be required to work at heights greater than 4-10 feet.

The expected pay range for this position is $34.06 (step 1) - $41.11 (step 10) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
