The Office of Student Success, housed within Educational Programs and Services (EPS), provides comprehensive, integrated, and responsive support to medical students across the Stanford School of Medicine. Our dedicated team of professionals and student advocates works collaboratively to foster the academic achievement and personal well-being of every student we serve.

 

Job Purpose

We are seeking an Associate Director of Disability Resources to provide strategic vision and leadership for student disability services within the Office of Student Success. Reporting to the Director of Student Success and working in partnership with the Assistant Dean for Accessible Learning, this position oversees individualized student accommodation determinations and drives programmatic development that advances accessibility and inclusion across the Stanford School of Medicine.

 

The Associate Director will collaborate with senior leadership to navigate complex, high-impact issues of university-wide scope, bringing advanced professional expertise, sound judgment, and a broad understanding of disability policy and practice. We welcome candidates who demonstrate a sustained commitment to equity and inclusion, fostering belonging, and partnerships with students from diverse backgrounds.

 

We’re looking for a person who can be an active collaborator in our ongoing work:

  • Engage directly with medical students to ensure that every student feels a sense of belonging by removing or mitigating barriers to participation fully as a member of the Stanford community.

  • Engaging with senior management and cross functional areas and academic departments toward equitable access.

  • Remaining up-to-date on best practices and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

 

Onsite Cadence

This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will include the option to telecommute from the Bay Area (a hybrid arrangement of 3 days on-site).

 

Core Duties:

  • Manage the work of disability advising of students, processes, and projects, to implement the strategic goals of disability resources support.

  • Identify, clarify, and resolve complex issues with university-wide scope and impact and substantial significance which may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring broad discretion and judgment.

  • Provide strategic direction for and manage a major area, school, or cluster of student services programs, including forecasting, planning, and managing program budgets.

  • Develop, analyze, measure effectiveness and oversee programs and tools for delivery of student services or programs.

  • Review exceptions to university, program or unit policies and procedures, settle grievances. Make recommendations that may impact the unit’s academic capabilities.

  • May manage the direction of internal academic and administrative policy development for programs and operations. May serve as senior advisor to dean on programmatic and policy development.

  • Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with university, academic and administrative policies within an organization or program. Recommend new internal policies, guidelines and procedures. Direct process improvement for organization or program.

  • Lead university- or school-wide initiatives and campaigns; develop long range planning and policy development for a school or program.

  • Represent school/department programs and initiatives at senior level meetings, conferences, and to both internal and external constituents.

  • Evaluate and recommend the technological needs and effectiveness for delivery of student programs and services

  • Identify, manage relationships, and negotiate with external and internal partners.

Education & Experience (Required):

Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in higher education setting preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Required): 

  • User knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.

  • Strong analytical skills to review and analyze complex financial information.

  • Strong leadership and strategic management skills.

  • Demonstrated experience managing people.

  • Understanding of underlying technological needs and requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.

  • Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $121,000 to $150,000 per annum.

 

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
