Stanford Graduate School of Business

Stanford's Graduate School of Business (GSB) has built a global reputation based on its immersive and innovative management programs. We provide students a transformative leadership experience, pushing the boundaries of knowledge with faculty research, and offering a portfolio of entrepreneurial and non-degree programs that deliver global impact. We invite you to be part of our mission of developing innovative, principled, and insightful leaders who change lives, change organizations, and change the world.

Success at the GSB is defined by The GSB Way - a commitment to shared purpose, community, and excellence in all that we do. We seek individuals who elevate themselves and those around them through the practice of academic candor, generous collaboration, and bringing curiosity and rigor to solving meaningful problems. At the GSB, impact means taking ownership, and contributing to a purpose-driven, collaborative, and high-performing community in service to the institution’s mission.

The Graduate School of Business seeks an Associate Dean to lead our Executive Education portfolio. The role reports to a Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and will oversee an operation of roughly 80 staff professionals spanning program design and delivery, business development, marketing as well as related finance and technology support. In this position, you will have the opportunity to work closely with faculty and staff to deliver impactful programs (synchronous and asynchronous) for a global audience of leaders and professionals.

Following several years of substantial growth, the new Associate Dean will have the opportunity to institutionalize recent accomplishments as well as chart a course for the GSB in a rapidly changing non-degree marketplace. The ideal candidate brings a depth of general management expertise and product leadership experience, capable of acting strategically to drive results, with a mission-driven approach to collaborate and inspire in a world-class organization. You thrive when leading highly functioning teams in complex environments.

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership to Executive Education staff, including communicating the vision for the organization, establishing goals and key metrics for success, and ensuring the ongoing development and retention of talent.
  • Working closely with the Senior Associate Dean and the Dean of the GSB in setting and implementing strategic priorities.
  • Overseeing the design, development, and delivery of enterprise and open enrollment programs with both in-person and online modalities, attracting executives from a wide array of sectors and global environments.
  • Establishing strategic and operational metrics that drive behaviors and effectively measure success in revenue generation, profit delivery and mission outcomes.
  • Developing strong faculty partnerships in the ongoing development of existing and new programs. Effectively leveraging GSB’s infrastructure and resources.
  • Designing and delivering compelling marketing strategies to meet or exceed enrollment targets.
  • Building global client relationships in pursuit of new enterprise opportunities. Partnering with faculty in designing competitive proposals that attract new business and enhance the overall portfolio.
  • Pursuing  opportunities to innovate in content and modality. Directing and facilitating market intelligence efforts, including competitive benchmarking and identification and analysis of market opportunities.
  • Responsibility for the financial viability and success of the organization. Will develop comprehensive financial analysis and strategic modeling for both short and long term planning and proposals. Leads the department's annual budget process.
  • Developing partnerships with other areas of the University to enable Executive Education to provide rich and cross-functional program offerings.
  • As a key member of the GSB leadership team, participating and advising on GSB-wide strategy, initiatives, and budgeting.

The successful candidate will enthusiastically lead with high integrity and humility a diverse and established team. You will demonstrate mastery of strategic thinking, keen analytical skills, and exceptional interpersonal competence. You will inspire a team that cherishes autonomous flexibility to thrive in an entrepreneurial and dynamic environment with intellectual curiosity, a unifying vision and transparent collaboration.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant leadership experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership, organizational planning and change management skills. This requires proven, hands-on operational leadership.
  • An ability to design for the unknown from a solid foundation in utilizing leading-edge marketing, programming and technology.
  • A results orientation in complex environments; demonstrated judgment in balancing inclusive collaboration and decisive accountability.
  • Solid business management, market intelligence and financial forecasting skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of influence and diplomacy, persuading a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders to drive outcomes.
  • Courage to challenge entrenched views and pursue non-traditional opportunities with data, insights and vision.
  • Demonstrated creativity in problem solving, critical analysis, and initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership behaviors, curious mindset, humble demeanor. A coaching orientation towards the management of others.
  • Demonstrated passion for our institutional mission of education and research.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • B2B and B2C product delivery excellence in higher education, tech or commercial industry.
  • Proven success collaborating with and supporting faculty and/or best-in-class subject matter experts.
  • Affinity with adopting and exploiting new tools and technologies (AI) in the development of products and acquisition of customers.
  • Advanced degree desired; MBA preferred.
