Stanford Law School seeks to hire its inaugural Associate Dean for Executive Education, reporting directly to the Dean of Stanford Law School (SLS). This Associate Dean will expand and build on the Law School’s existing offerings, initiate new programs and create a robust vision and strategy for this focus area.  This seasoned professional will analyze the market and opportunities for best-in-class education that will attract audiences of high-level government officials, industry executives, asset managers, leaders in the legal profession, among others.  Program topics may include, but not be limited to, corporate governance; venture capital, AI and other technologies; ESG and sustainability; law firm management; and public policy in a broad range of areas. 

You will conceptualize Executive Education programming for SLS by determining demand for subject matter and target audiences for each Executive Education curricular offering; Create a network of advisors and speaker portfolios, including outside practitioners to draw upon for niche programming; Evaluate pedagogical approaches of in-person, remote and hybrid (including asynchronous vs. synchronous) delivery of material, as well as possibilities of global audiences; Advise the Dean regarding on programming strategy, brand development and revenue generation. Depending on the subject matter, you would also teach selected courses and direct research on topics addressed in the programming, such as venture finance, corporate governance or sustainability, or government relations.

In this role you will be responsible for determining the department’s staffing and organizational chart for success in consultation with the Sr. Associate Dean for Administration and Finance.  Given that you will facilitate and coordinate all Executive Education programming at the Law School, you will need to work effectively with Center Executive Directors and their Faculty Directors with the goal of building cohesion across SLS on the programming, goals, and execution of the program.

CORE DUTIES

  • Plan, create, and initiate strategic plans for organization or program(s) managed and generate and execute on new programming and offerings. Make recommendations that may impact the unit's academic and research capabilities. Identify and resolve strategic issues of substantial significance that affect the overall functioning beyond the immediate unit, consult and advise senior leadership. Oversee allocation of all resources.
  • Manage the direction of internal academic and administrative policy development for programs and administrative operations.
  • Direct staff and provide leadership to achieve goals and vision of the organization. Responsible for hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, personal development for direct reports and accountable for the performance of employees.
  • Oversee and/or manage the finances across all sources for the annual budget cycle, including developing, monitoring, analyzing forecasting and reporting to ensure the financial success of the organization.
  • Advise on programmatic and policy development.
  • May independently or in collaboration with human resources managers, direct faculty supervisors and managers in the interpretation and implementation of human resources policies, procedures and programs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and seven years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or combination of education and relevant experience. JD or MBA preferred; graduate level degree required.

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong knowledge of industry standards and/or regulatory requirements.
  • Strong negotiation and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Advanced expertise in business and management computer applications and databases.
  • Subject matter expertise for area(s) of responsibility.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.

The expected pay range for this position is $189,000 to $241,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
