Stanford Law School seeks to hire an Assistant Director of Annual Giving. This front-line fundraiser will play a critical role within the law school’s field fundraising team. This position will focus on alumni engagement including 3-5 reunion classes (potentially the 1st, 5th, 15th and 45th). Reporting to the Associate Director of Annual Giving, the Assistant Director will function as a qualification officer, identifying prospects for future, long-term engagement. He/she will develop and implement fundraising strategies, including reunion campaigns, and assist with designing and managing language for related print and email appeals.

As one of two Assistant Directors, you will partner with colleagues and volunteers toward achieving monetary and participation goals. You will participate in periodic prospect meetings with all field fundraisers, alumni relations officers, and operations teams. As a representative of the institution, you will become an expert on Stanford Law School; continually building you knowledge of the school, the university, and its programs.

As a member of the External Relations team, the Assistant Directors support the larger goals and projects of Stanford Law School and External Relations, including some evening and weekend work on high-profile engagement events. Frequent travel is required.


  • Work with a portfolio of assigned prospects/donors to cultivate, solicit, and steward their support.
  • Develop fundraising strategies, and track and analyze results of development activities.
  • Identify and prioritize prospects, make volunteer prospects assignments, prepare background material for solicitations, and follow up with volunteers to ensure completion of assigned solicitations.
  • Manage all aspects of volunteer reunion committees.
  • Work with Major Gift Officers and Alumni Relations on region strategies.
  • As a representative of Stanford Law School, establish ongoing relationships with individual alumni through personal visits, phone calls, and other meaningful contacts.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on overall results to internal and external constituencies, as needed.
  • Participate in the design and management of reunion- and/or class-based appeals (e.g., direct mail, email, video, phone, and other channels) to target key populations to maximize fundraising potential.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience with fundraising in a higher education environment.
  • Ability to develop and initiate new strategies.
  • Adept at problem solving, creating contingency plans and handling emergencies when necessary
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; sense of humor.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies and effectively develops relationships that enhance overall development goals.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage projects simultaneously. 
  • Skilled at articulating compelling cases for major gifts and annual discretionary support.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to set and meet deadlines for multiple constituencies.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), relational databases and/or Google drive.
Certifications and Licenses:

  • Valid California Non-commercial Class Driver's License.
