JOB PURPOSE:
Alumni Relations is part of External Relations, a collaborative joint department, comprised of a fundraising group and an alumni relations group, which operate together to build and maintain relationships with Stanford Law School alumni, parents and friends to advance the school’s mission. In this challenging and rewarding position, the successful candidate will be dedicated to strategically building and strengthening Stanford Law School alumni communities for campus and regionally based programs.

Reporting to the Director of Alumni Relations, the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations works with alumni volunteers, faculty, students, the Stanford Law School Office of External Relations, and other law school and University colleagues to develop, implement, and evaluate activities, programs, services, and communications that reach, serve, and engage Stanford Law School alumni. Duties will include marketing, planning or managing all/part of alumni programs, events, educational opportunities, and/or other alumni initiatives. The Assistant Director is responsible for managing regional law chapters in Chicago, Minnesota, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and Texas, and other alumni communities as assigned.

We seek a candidate who is thorough, efficient, and reliable in his/her/their work product. Sense of humor, ability to adapt/pivot mid-work stream, strong communication and writing skills are a must.


CORE DUTIES*:

  • Work with Director, Associate Director, Annual Giving, and Major Gift Officers to create innovative regional programming, and implement programs in regional law chapters.

  • Identify, recruit, train, and steward volunteers in Chicago, Minnesota, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and Texas regional law chapters and other alumni communities as assigned, partnering with them to plan events, programs, and volunteer led projects.

  • Develop contacts and maintain relationships with alumni, faculty, students, staff, and vendors.

  • Plan large scale and/or high level alumni programs and events. This may include annual Board of Visitors meeting and Alumni Weekend.

  • Collaborate and coordinate with other departments and schools to achieve the goals of alumni programs or projects.

  • Work with law school colleagues and other departments to identify and implement new markets and develop program strategies. This could include managing events in regions without an established alumni chapter or planning events for affinity chapter populations.

  • Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and cost negotiations for alumni events and programs. Oversee the quality of delivered products and services.

  • Evaluate alumni programs and services for customer satisfaction. This could include creating surveys, reviewing and analyzing data on website and social media usage, event attendance, etc.

  • Assist in managing overall online presence of the Office of Alumni Relations, including website and social media.

  • Staff all major External Relations programs and regional events as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through and the ability to represent the university professionally both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet expected deadlines and schedules.
  • Demonstrated experience with volunteer development and oversight.
  • Strong interpersonal, team, and leadership skills; tact and flexibility in working with diverse population groups.
  • Sound judgment, the ability to analyze problems quickly and accurately, and the ability to develop practical and effective solutions to solve a variety of problems.
  • Computer proficiency and the ability to learn new systems. Salesforce, Marketo, PostGrads, and html experience a plus.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Able to exercise discretion in working with highly confidential and sensitive information.
Certifications and Licenses:
  • Valid California Non-commercial Class Driver's License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Constantly perform desk-based tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Rarely writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasional work on evenings and weekends.
  • May work outdoors.
  • Some local or domestic travel.
