Position Summary: Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost and Executive Director of Stanford Career Education, the Assistant Director of Alumni Career Engagement is responsible for identifying, serving, and reporting on the career needs of recent Stanford alumni who are within five years of graduation. In providing vital leadership to the Stanford PlusFive program, the role will also draw from direct experience in career-focused advising alumni to train and support the center’s career coaches and employer relations staff to ensure the success of Stanford alumni.  This role also collaborates with Stanford Alumni Association (SAA) to develop career-focused programming that the SAA provides in support of Stanford PlusFive. Additionally, this role coordinates with the center’s MarCom team to update relevant communications and communications channels including the CareerEd website, resources, and social media. The incumbent will also affiliate with units such as Stanford’s Schools and the Stanford Alumni Association to ensure collaboration and the effectiveness of the Stanford PlusFive program. 

This is a 2-year fixed term position.

Core Duties:

  • Manage the Stanford PlusFive program, analyze effectiveness, and make final decisions on program eligibility for Stanford alumni.
    • Develop career support programs for alumni within five years of graduating from Stanford as part of the Stanford PlusFive program in partnership with the Stanford Alumni Association and other professional resources such as NACE, NCDA, NASPA, and the Ivy+ system.
    • Align the Stanford PlusFive program development with research from and in partnership with the Stanford Alumni Association
    • Participate in administrative meetings and professional development.
  • Engage in critical analysis of alumni and program concerns to resolve substantial issues.
    • Connect recent alumni to employment resources and opportunities, career development resources, and to other Stanford alumni.
    • Review and recommend related programs and services where career development could be expanded in an efficient and effective manner to alumni who are within five years of graduating from Stanford.
    • Develop and share resources relevant to recent alumni, using CareerEd resources such as the Career Development Framework, learning outcomes, DEIB resources, and platforms such as Handshake and the Stanford Directory.
  • Develop and implement programming with Stanford Alumni Association and CareerEd team members, make strategic recommendations for future programs.
    • Develop curriculum and facilitate workshops and programs to address the career needs of recent alumni.
    • Consult, and as needed integrate, Stanford Alumni Association data/summaries of previous programs and alumni surveys.
    • Review and recommend related programs and services where career development could be expanded in an efficient and effective manner to alumni who are within five years of graduating from Stanford.
  • Provide direct advice to alumni on a range of issues in order to facilitate informed career decision making and general career education.
    • Provide informed and researched career coaching to recent alumni.
    • Assist recent alumni with career and job search needs.
    • Connect recent alumni to employment resources and opportunities, and to other Stanford alumni.
    • Develop and share resources relevant to recent alumni via a range of media and career coaching approaches.
  • Manage outreach programs in collaboration with Stanford Alumni Association, and steward relationships with relevant external community and university liaisons.
    • Collaborate and develop relationships with key staff across campus and alumni groups to connect recent alumni with relevant resources, programs, and opportunities.
    • Collaborate center initiatives, such as open houses, career events, and programs for various constituent groups where an informed perspective about the PlusFive program strengthens the position of the center as a campus resource.
  • Utilize online platforms to increase awareness of the PlusFive program, career resources, programs, opportunities, and career-focused connections for recent alumni. 
  • Interpret and implement university policy related to academic policies; oversee the implementation of policies and practices for assigned program.
  • Analyze and develop report requirements, portals, and alumni facing communications from CareerEd and the Stanford Alumni Association.
    • Identify and report on metrics that demonstrate the impact, successes, and opportunities for development for the Stanford PlusFive program
  • Provide relevant consulting advice to internal and external organizations.
  • Oversee key processes, including contribution and direction on policy and program content.
  • Serve on and/or lead committees and task force groups to design, implement, and evaluate PlusFive services and programs.
  • May direct the work of other staff; contribute to development of staff training programs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience in using career coaching to support university alumni and students. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to review and analyze complex information.
  • Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Advanced client engagement service skills.
  • Relevant computer systems/online platform experience.
  • Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

 

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, Education, Student Affairs, or related field preferred
  • Seven to 10 years of experience with supporting career development at the university level
  • Advanced career advising and career coaching skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in advising on matters such job searching, networking, resumes and cover letters, career exploration, economic trends, and finding meaningful work and life purpose.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of career assessments and related tools to support career development for audiences that have work experience.
  • Direct experience in working with alumni of higher education institutions.
  • Experience in setting up and using groups to facilitate career development initiatives.
  • Direct experience in addressing career development needs within Stanford University.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to work in a diverse environment and serve constituents from a wide variety of backgrounds, especially with respect to an understanding of and work with diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external constituents in a complex system. 
  • Experience and comfort with using career-focused online platforms such as Handshake.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in an ongoing and sustained manner with campus units to co-manage career development initiatives.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write byhand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10pounds.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May work extended hours, evening and weekends

The expected pay range for this position is $43.75 per hour to $50.62 per hour.
