Stanford University has an immediate opening for a full-time Assistant Director in the Native American Cultural Center (NACC), whose mission is to champion Indigenous excellence, foster leadership development and academic opportunities for students, and promote wellness within the Native community at Stanford. The NACC anchors events, programs, meetings and conversations around Native issues. It is a place to learn, to relax, to find support and get advice, and to nurture community. It is home to Stanford’s over 450 Indigenous-identifying students representing more than 50 Native nations and island communities, and is a welcoming place to others on campus and beyond.

JOB PURPOSE:
Lead and manage program(s) or function(s) under minimal supervision. Administer, implement, and interpret university and department policies and procedures on issues regarding admission, financial aid, housing, registrar services, visa services, student life, advising, career counseling and academic services. 
Identify, clarify, and resolve highly visible or complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment. Work on problems of diverse complexity (size, degree, focus, expertise, breadth, impact) where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. 
Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external contacts in their own area of expertise and outside their own area of expertise.


CORE DUTIES:

    • In partnership with NACC Associate Director, train and lead a student staff team of approximately 10 - 12 undergraduate and graduate students that will directly support the day-to-day operation of the center and its programming.
    • Serve as a NACC team leader/member for the Stanford Native Immersion Program (SNIP) (pre-NSO annually), NACC NSO, Reunion Homecoming, Admit Weekend, annual Stanford Powwow, and Native Graduation.
    • Oversee essential NACC programs and operations including student staff hiring, the John Milton Oskison Writing Award selection process, and the Summer Indigenous Language Stipend Program application and selection process in partnership with the Program in Native American Studies. 
    • Serve as part of a NACC leadership team to partner with Vaden and others to craft a Native Mental Health strategic plan. Foster campus partnerships with CAPS and Wellbeing to create regular wellness programming hosted at the NACC.
    • Serve as primary NACC liaison to graduate and professional school partners with respect to student outreach, admission, recruitment, and transition. Some travel may be assigned.
    • Oversee and/or process financial transactions and assist in NACC budget management. 
    • Develop and manage NACC communications such as community calendars and quarterly newsletters for community stakeholders in partnership with other professional staff and student staff contributors.  
    • In partnership with the Director and Associate Director, design a Native Mentorship Initiative pairing juniors and seniors with Indigenous alumni to promote professional and graduate school pathways, including outreach, data collection, and matching protocols.
    • Working closely with the Director and Associate Director and campus academic partners to lead conversations and initiatives that support the academic development of students involved in Native American Studies.   
    • Collaborate with peers from the Centers for Equity, Community, and Leadership (CECL) to share information, best practices, and optimal student services and support.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. 


Strongly Preferred:

    • Master’s degree and 2+ years of experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
    • Student affairs, academic or work experience related to the fields of education, social work, community organizing, arts & media organization, counseling psychology, race & ethnic studies, alumni relations or other work and training in the social sciences with a focus on access and belonging.
    • Knowledge of and/or experience with Native & Indigenous students and communities. 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.
    • Advanced analysis and problem solving skills.
    • Advanced computer skills, including experience with Google Workspace & Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Understanding of and familiarity with financial transactions.
    • Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

    • Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
    • Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $91,874 - $96,000 per annum 
Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
