The Cantor’s encyclopedic collection spans 5,000 years and includes more than 40,000 works of art from around the globe. An established resource for teaching and research on campus, the Cantor offers free admission and programs year-round. It is consistently one of the most visited university museums in the U.S.

Reporting to the Director of Academic and Public Programs, the Academic Engagement Associate will provide administrative and operational support to the Cantor Arts Center academic engagement programs working with limited supervision. This position will be the point person for academic engagement programs including Cantor-Anderson Student Guides, Stanford class visits to the Cantor, internships for Stanford students, and other student and faculty programs.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage administration and logistics for academic engagement programs at the Cantor Arts Center, including scheduling, managing, and providing onsite support for Stanford class visits, student events, faculty programs, talks, and campus community events.

  • Manage communication for academic engagement programs, responding to inquiries from students, faculty, and staff while providing information on opportunities and programs, along with museum policies and procedures.

  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to promote academic engagement programs and ensure accurate information on the Cantor website.

  • Schedule and maintain the reservation system for Stanford class visits to the Cantor. Facilitate clear communication between faculty, students, and various departments, ensuring smooth coordination for class visits. Prepare materials and monitor class visits as needed.

  • Assist in training and coordinating Cantor-Anderson Student Guides, including organizing course materials, sending weekly updates, and developing curriculum in collaboration with other staff at the Cantor and at the Anderson Collection.

  • Manage the application process for student positions and opportunities, including composing calls for applications, creating application timelines, reviewing submissions, conducting interviews, and handling hiring paperwork with HR.

  • Oversee shift scheduling for student workers, approve timesheets, and provide feedback and guidance where needed.

  • Support the Director and Associate Director of Academic and Public Programs with outreach efforts to build and strengthen partnerships with students, faculty, and departments across campus.

* Other duties may also be assigned.

 

Please note that this position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered hybrid with the expectation to be on campus 3-4 days per week depending on class visit days, meetings, and other events. events. In addition, this position will require working occasional evenings and weekends. 

In order to be successful, you will bring:

  • High school diploma and four years of administrative experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting and supporting an inclusive environment.

  • Proficient computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software and email applications.

  • Demonstrated success in following through and completing routine tasks.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.

 In addition, preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience teaching, mentoring, or leading groups of students.

  • Experience working within a museum, college, or university.

  • Experience leading tours or conducting education or engagement programs in a museum setting.

  • Background or education in Museum Education, Museum Studies, Art History, or Collections Management.

The expected pay range for this position is $39.20 – $40.86 per hour.
