MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with multiple types of operating systems or expert knowledge in one.
  • Experience with managing an integrated computing environment.
  • Extensive experience in multiple programming languages for system development.
  • Experience with networked environments.
  • Experience with network storage solutions.
  • Experience with configuring and maintaining routers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security protocols and best practices.
  • Ability to manage shared resources and perform moderately complex tasks.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to train others in applications and operating system fundamentals.
  • Experience with middleware and infrastructure.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience or familiarity using and administering Windows workstations, Windows Server, RedHat/CentOS Linux, and macOS
  • Experience or familiarity administering Hyper-V or similar Hypervisors with external NFS shared storage. Basic TCP/IP v4 knowledge
  • Experience or familiarity setting up and managing remote desktops or virtual computing environments
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and perform advanced troubleshooting of hardware and software installations and configurations
  • Experience or familiarity managing systems and deploying software via endpoint management tools, such as JAMF, MDM, BigFix, Sassafras
  • General knowledge or experience using git or other version control tool
  • Experience with practical application of scripting in languages like Bash, Python, Ruby, or Powershell for automating workflows. Ability to adapt and improve existing scripts
  • Overall knowledge of how hardware works and how to best utilize local resources. Creating, installing and booting from USB memory devices on occasion
  • Experience or familiarity with automated configuration management tools or frameworks like Ansible, Chef, Puppet, radmind, homebrew, infrastructure as code
  • Experience or familiarity with using Active Directory, LDAP, SAML, kerberos or similar authentication systems
  • Willingness to help train and work in tandem with student staff
  • Experience or familiarity with packaging or repackaging software installers, e.g. creating DMGs, PKGs, RPMs, MSIs
  • Experience or familiarity with the Windows Registry and Active Directory Group Policy, macOS configuration profiles and LaunchAgents/Daemons
  • Familiarity with Windows, macOS, and Linux file system layout, conventions and permissions
  • Experience or familiarity with configuring and managing mailman servers, web servers like Apache, and license servers
  • Experience or familiarity interacting with APIs programmatically

Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.

 

The expected pay range for this position is $92,000 to 126,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Frequently sitting.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 21>40 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Rarely exposed to high voltage electricity, noise >80dB TWA, confined spaces, hot temperatures, heavy metals.
  • Extended hours and weekends.
